The chief American defense counsel, Colonel Willis M. News of the defense claims leaked out to the press and generated criticism of American war crimes trial procedures both in the United States and Germany. Leading German clerics, including some who had been imprisoned by the Nazis in concentration camps, condemned the Malmedy proceedings. Under popular pressure in the midst of the Cold War between the western powers and the Soviet Union, all the sentences of the Malmedy defendants were commuted, including those sentenced to death. By all of the convicted had been freed from prison. I have placed a move-portions-tag into the Rhine Province article next to the one in Rhineland. If wikipedia wants to have an article about a territory that has been occupied and eventually annexed, the title should be more specific.

A Prussian king first set foot on the Rhine in The first King in Prussia was crowned in and with this started the Kingdom of Prussia. What the author meant was the Elector of Brandenburg. It's very uncommon to refer to region around the Neckar as Rhineland. The source for this is some guide book that covers the whole Rhine river and is called the Rhineland. I don't think it's a particular good or authoritative source. The section called "French Revolution" reads as opinionated and has a pro-French, pro-Napoleon bias.
